这两个词都可以用来指代在餐馆、咖啡馆或酒店等场所工作的服务人员。
在餐馆或咖啡馆用餐时，如果需要服务员过来，可以说"Excuse me, I need a waiter please"或者"I would like to call a server, please".同样的，如果需要服务员的帮助或者想要点菜，可以直接对服务员说"Excuse me, can I have the menu?"或者"Can you recommend any specials?"服务员通常会很乐意帮助你。
